Yearly Awards for Locals

 

 

Maizis Martial Arts Academy in it’s new location in Stayner, Ontario hosted their annual Christmas party and awards banquet, a wonderful family style evening.  Attending the event were black belt from as far away as London, Ontario.

 

In addition to the twenty people who were inducted to the on-time club, five additional awards were given.  Male student of the year went to David Reid.  Female student of the year was awarded to Angel Vollick.  This year’s parents of the year were Chris and Frances Lawton.  Two very special awards honouring the memory of Soke-Dai Michelle Maizis’ late father and late martial arts instructor were also handed out.  The Hercules Maizis Spirit award went to Jennifer Redman while the Soke Kwan Heart award went to Kyle Lawton.

 

Congratulations to all the students and parents of the academy.  Maizis Martial Arts Academy wishes everyone a very Merry Christmas.

Team Maizis Tops in Toronto

 

 

Two members of Team Maizis from Maizis Martial Arts Academy in Stayner, Ontario travelled with their coach, Soke-Dai Michelle Maizis, to the Toronto Tournament of Champions.  In the final event of the year these two members had a terrific day.

 

David Reid was 2nd in the 35 and over kata division and 3rd in the 35 and over kumite division.  He also was a finalist in the adult kyu belt weapons.  Reid is a top performer in the National Martial Arts Circuit.  Final ratings for the circuit will be out mid to late December.

 

Alexandros Maizis also had an awesome day.  This five-year old won a trophy almost as big as him in his little dragons kata division.  Maizis went on to place 5th in 6 and under kata, 5th in 6 and under kumite and was a finalist in the 8 and under weapons division.

 

Sensei Mike Palitti of North Toronto Karate presented Soke-Dai Michelle Maizis with a plaque honouring her instructor, the late Soke Glenn Kwan.  Maizis now the head of the system Genki-do and the plaque will hang in her dojo in it’s new location in Stayner.
